Renault's Moscow plant will resume the production of Moskvich cars

The Russian assets of the Renault Group are passing into state ownership - the relevant agreements have been signed. As a result of the transactions, the shares in the assets will be distributed as follows: 100% of the shares of CJSC Renault Russia will be owned by the Moscow government. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, the production of passenger cars under the historical Moskvich brand will be resumed at the Moscow Renault Russia plant.

KAMAZ will become the main technological partner of the Moskvich plant. At the first stage, the production of classic cars with an internal combustion engine will be organized, and in the future, electric cars will be produced. Recall, the board of directors of the Renault Group at a meeting on March 23rd decided to suspend the work of the Renault plant in Moscow as part of the implementation of international sanctions. It produced the Renault Duster, Renault Kaptur, Nissan Terrano crossovers, as well as Renault Arkana coupe-crossover. The production capacity of the enterprise is 188 thousand cars per year. Renault's total investment in the Moscow plant reaches 480 million Euros. The company meets high standards of quality and production processes, also due to the high level of robotization and innovation.

As for AVTOVAZ, 67.69% of the company's shares, owned by Renault, become the property of the Russian Federation represented by FSUE NAMI, subordinated to the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade. The remaining shares of AVTOVAZ will be retained by Rostech, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation reports. An important condition is the option for Renault to repurchase its stake in AVTOVAZ, which can be exercised within the next 6 years. Within the framework of existing licenses, the production of the whole line of LADA cars at the production sites of AVTOVAZ will continue. AVTOVAZ will also carry out after-sales service of Renault cars in the Russian market. Recall that until the end of 2021, the Dutch company Alliance Rostec Auto B.V., owned by the state corporation Rostec (32%) and Renault Group (68%), was the owner of 100% of AVTOVAZ shares.

At the end of 2021, the transfer of 100% of AVTOVAZ shares to Russian jurisdiction was completed, under the auspices of a new joint company, Lada Auto Holding, in which the shareholders' shares did not change.
