The dynamics of the Russian car market in May of 2020

The share of sales of Chinese cars in a number of subjects of the Russian Federation exceeded 10%

Cars from China are conquering increasingly the Russian market. If in April 2022 they accounted for 12.6% of the total sales of new passenger cars, then for four months it reached 9.8%. According to the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT", according to the results of data processing by JSC "Electronic Passport" (EPTS), from January to April, Russians purchased 28,662 new cars of Chinese brands. We decided to find out in which regions the most cars from China were bought during this period. Three metropolitan markets turned out to be the undisputed leaders - Moscow (4444 units), Moscow Region (3223 units), St. Petersburg (2318 units). Among the non-capital entities, the Krasnodar Territory (1578 units) and the Chelyabinsk Region (839 units) got into the TOP-5.

However, if we consider the share of sales of Chinese cars in the subjects of the Russian Federation, then their rating will turn out to be completely different. Buryatia occupies the first place, where for the previous four months the share of “Chinese” cars in the market of new cars has reached 21.1%. Irkutsk region is the second one (18.1%). Three more regions were in the TOP-5, in which the share of Chinese cars was more than 13%: Leningrad Region (13.5%), Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (13.2%) and Altai Territory (13.1%). In total, in 35 Russian regions, the share of "Chinese" is higher than the country average (9.8%). And in 30 subjects of the Russian Federation, it even exceeds 10%.
