BMW Rusland Trading announced the recall of 866 BMW X1 and X2 crossovers manufactured from January to March 2022. The affected vehicles were equipped with front seat belts (driver side and passenger side) which may have suffered damage to the gas microgenerator during manufacture. A damaged gas microgenerator in an emergency can lead to a negative impact on the retention function, the press service of Rosstandart reports. All vehicles will be checked and replaced if necessary, both front seat belts. All work will be carried out free of charge for owners. According to the results of the first quarter of 2022, Russian BMW dealers sold 8,414 vehicles, which is 23% lower than a year ago (AEB data).

As a result, the Bavarian brand has become the leader of the premium segment in the Russian automotive market. Meanwhile, in early March, due to the geopolitical situation, BMW suspended the supply of cars to the Russian market and production at the facilities of the Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad. As AUTOSTAT previously reported, despite the suspension of the supply of spare parts by many automakers, Rosstandart will continue to announce recall campaigns in Russia for cars with factory defects. According to the department, companies that do not comply with these requirements are subject to sanctions in the form of fines and up to the suspension of activities.

Meanwhile, the owners of warranty cars say about refusals to repair within the framework of recalls, which could potentially lead to an accident. In such cases, claims and lawsuits should be addressed.
