Manufacturer of bearings SKF leaves Russia

The Swedish company SKF, the world's largest bearing manufacturer, has announced a decision on a controlled cessation of operations in Russia in the face of tightening Western sanctions. SKF will stop doing business in Russia, stop all operations here, stop investment projects and sell its plant. The company will carry out its withdrawal from Russia during the second quarter, that is, until the end of June. 500 million crowns ($53 million) have been reserved for these purposes. It is known that the Russian management team, together with colleagues from Sweden, is developing a business reorganization plan. Going forward, SKF LLC (the Russian division of the SKF group of companies) will continue its business activity "outside the orbit of the SKF group of companies".

At the same time, there are no plans to stop the production at the enterprise in Tver, which will protect the interests of local employees. SKF bearings for cars are popular in the aftermarket in Russia, but all of them were imported. The company's plant in the Tver region has been operating since 2010 and produces bearings only for railway transport. However, since 2021, the Swedish company has been actively developing a project for the production of parts for original equipment of cars at these facilities. In June of the previous year, the Tver plant SKF was even visited by AVTOVAZ delegation headed by the company's president, Nicolas Maure.

The possibility of organizing the production of bearings for LADA and Renault cars was discussed. But now these plans have been put on hold.
