Volvo and Land Rover Jaguar cut staff in Russian offices

Volvo Cars and Jaguar Land Rover, following General Motors, are reducing their Russian offices. The Swedish brand intends to continue warranty support and is ready to pay for spare parts imported bypassing the copyright holder, there is no clarity on Jaguar Land Rover yet. The companies have not commented on the situation officially yet. According to the publication, other automakers are also ready to pay for spare parts for parallel imports, as they themselves cannot import them and otherwise they will have to buy warranty cars.

Recall that both Volvo Cars and Jaguar Land Rover have suspended deliveries of cars to Russia since March 1st. In the first quarter of 2022, Jaguar Land Rover Russia sold 1,075 vehicles, which is 37% lower than a year ago, according to the AEB. Sales of Volvo for the same period fell by 16% and reached 1519 cars. It is worth noting that the export of premium cars to Russia, which includes these brands, is already limited by sanctions. Thus, the EU banned the import of cars worth more than 50 thousand Euros into the Russian Federation, and the UK also announced a ban on the supply of luxury goods, including expensive cars.

As the executive director of the agency "AUTOSTAT" Sergey Udalov notes, in general, "even small markets are important" for premium brands. According to Denis Migal, CEO of the Fresh Auto dealership network, the deficit will increase in the near future, and the recommended retail prices for those cars that will still be shipped will increase. You should not expect a decrease in cost, because even if the shortage of cars is overcome with the help of parallel imports, deliveries through the territory of third countries will increase the transport shoulder, respectively, and logistics costs. And this will definitely have a negative impact on the final price for the consumer.
