AVTOVAZ global sales fell by a third in Q1 2022

Global sales of AVTOVAZ, including both the Russian market and exports, in the first quarter of 2022 fell by 33.1%, to 60.6 thousand vehicles, follows from the reporting of the shareholder of AVTOVAZ, the Renault group. According to the Association of European Businesses, in January-March, 52.7 thousand cars of a Russian manufacturer were sold in Russia (-37% in compare with the previous year). Thus, export sales of LADA in the first quarter were almost 7.9 thousand cars. At the same time, the Renault Group's revenue from participation in AVTOVAZ decreased by 23.1% in the quarter in annual terms, to 527 million Euros. As previously reported by "AUTOSTAT", according to the results of the first quarter of 2022, 468 new LADA cars were sold in the countries of the European Union, which are higher by 49.5% in compare with the previous year.

However, the positive dynamics is primarily due to the low base of the previous year. Recall that in the spring of 2019 AVTOVAZ decided to stop deliveries of LADA cars to Europe. The reason for leaving was called the tightening of environmental standards: the current Euro 6d-TEMP standard requires serious investments in the modernization of engines. Meanwhile, it was previously announced that LADA brand will return to the European market with a new generation LADA Niva SUV, which should be introduced in 2024.

However, in March 2022, it became known that the Renault Group was considering possible options regarding its share in AVTOVAZ as a part of compliance with international sanctions against Russia, in connection with which LADA's export plans for Europe may be revised.
