Production of passenger cars continues only at four plants in Russia

The vast majority of Russian car factories is idle today. The main reason for the forced stoppage of conveyors is officially called the lack of components due to the rupture of supply chains due to the situation around Ukraine. According to the information of the agency "AUTOSTAT", at present, the production of cars is carried out only at four enterprises - these are the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant, "Haval Motor Rus", "Mazda Sollers" and "Avtotor", which continues to produce Kia and Hyundai models, at that time BMW assembly line suspended.

Meanwhile, UAZ announced a corporate vacation for 6 working days in the first half of May, as a result, the conveyor of the enterprise will be stopped for two weeks, taking into account the May public holidays. But from April 24, AVTOVAZ should resume the production, which had previously postponed a two-week corporate vacation from summer to April. True, from June 6th, 2022, AVTOVAZ will introduce a 4-day working week at the production sites in Tolyatti and Izhevsk for a period of 3 months due to the forecast of the Russian car market and the ongoing crisis in the supply of electronic components. The prospects for the resumption of work of other car plants in Russia have not been reported yet.

As Aleksey Starikov, deputy general director for sales of new cars of AVILON AG, informed the agency "AUTOSTAT", the market is experiencing a shortage and shows another drop in sales due to the decision of manufacturers to suspend temporarily supplies and local production. Obviously, the situation with the shortage of cars will only increase and will continue even after the resumption of shipments. Dealers have a limited stock of cars, these are the models with which dealers managed to fill warehouses at the beginning of the year – the situation is completely different for all brands. The cars of the upper-price segment are in the greatest shortage. Brands that have not announced their decision to suspend continue the deliveries, they are extremely limited, the situation is, of course, better for them, but do not forget that at the beginning of 2022 the market was affected by a shortage of components, now it has only intensified, manufacturers are forced to reduce the production volumes or completely stop the work of factories.

"It all depends on the decision of manufacturers to resume the shipments and establish supply chains. The terms of the normalization of the situation is absolutely unclear, the market will take a long time to recover," the expert says.
