Stocks of tires in Russia will last for two years

According to the Chestny Znak marking system, Russia's tire stocks for passenger cars exceed the annual market volume, by reaching almost 61 million units. There are 26.5 million summer tires, almost 14 million winter studded tires, 11.5 million winter non-studded tires and almost 9 million all-season tires in the warehouses of manufacturers and importers, as well as at points of sale. Other 18.1 million is a warehouse of tires for trucks, buses, agricultural machinery and other vehicles. The total volume of tires and tires as of March 31st in the Russian Federation exceeds 79 million tires. Based on demand at the level of 2021, these reserves alone will be enough for 11-17 months, according to the CRPT (the operator of the Chestny Znak system). NokianTyres and Michelin estimated the aftermarket tire market in 2021 at 40.5 million - 40.7 million units.

The interlocutor clarifies that the volume of the market specifically for passenger tires in recent years was about 30 million units, falling even below this bar after the coronavirus. That is, only on warehouse stocks - while maintaining demand at the level of recent years - consumers are provided with tires for two years. Meanwhile, the traditional surge in demand in March-April coincided with statements by a number of foreign manufacturers about the suspension of work in the Russian Federation, which, against the backdrop of the ruble's appreciation, led to higher prices and excitement. As a result, even with the apparent saturation of the market, there was a shortage of some popular sizes, which was observed, however, last year due to difficulties with logistics and suspension of production due to the coronavirus.

At the same time, tires continue to be produced in Russia, so it is impossible to say that the warehouse is not replenished. Thus, factories of local manufacturers KamaTyres, Cordiant and Nortec, as well as NokianTyres and Pirelli localized in Russia, operate. Foreign tire manufacturers have not announced their departure from our country, but the work of local sites Bridgestone, Continental, Michelin and Yokohama has been suspended. Also, second-hand tires in good condition are traditionally in demand among customers.
