Toyota will cut the world car production by 10%

The Japanese auto concern Toyota Motor in May 2022 will reduce the production at its plants around the world to 700 thousand cars, or 10% from the originally planned level. According to the Nikkei newspaper, the production of cars at Toyota enterprises in Japan will decrease slightly - by about 200 thousand units. At the same time, only 500,000 cars should roll off the assembly lines at Toyota's foreign plants in May, which is 100,000 lower than expected. The reason for this decision was the disruption of supply chains after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, as well as the re-imposition of restrictions against the spread of coronavirus in some countries, including China. Recall that Toyota plant in St. Petersburg has suspended its work since March 4, 2022 due to delays in the supply of components. The plant in St. Petersburg produces Toyota's bestsellers in the Russian market - the Toyota RAV4 crossover and the Camry business sedan.

As for imported models, deliveries of Toyota and Lexus vehicles to Russia are currently temporarily suspended until further notice due to disruption of logistics supply chains in the region. “Supplies will be resumed as supply chains recover. We continue to monitor closely the situation," the press service of Toyota Motor said. As AUTOSTAT previously reported, according to the results of the first quarter of 2022, Russian Toyota dealers sold 16,925 cars, which is 27% lower in compare with the previous year.

As a result, Toyota ranked the fifth in sales among all automakers in Russia, and the brand's market share was 6.1% versus 6.0%, according to the AEB.
