New LCV market fell by 21% in March

At the end of March 2022, 8.8 thousand new light commercial vehicles (LCV) were purchased in Russia, which is 21% lower than in the same month of the previous year. This was found out by the experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" after processing and analyzing the relevant data of JSC "Electronic Passport". Recall that in January and February the LCV market in our country showed the growth, and the fall in March is largely due to the consequences of the military special operation in Ukraine.

Against this background, some automakers suspended the supply of cars to the Russian market, and some auto plants faced interruptions in the supply of components due to disruption in supply chains. In addition, due to the collapse of the Russian ruble (in late February - early March), car prices rushed up sharply. All of this worked against the LCV market. For example, the GAZ brand, which is its leader, saw its volumes fall by 16% in March (down to 3,815 units). UAZ, which is the second one (1218 units), lost 24% from the level of a year ago. For the Ford brand, the drop was 20% (down to 1210 units), for LADA - 14% (down to 1147 units). Peugeot (296 units; -41%) rounded out the top five among brands far behind. In the TOP-10, only Hyundai was able to demonstrate a positive trend in March (+74%).

And among the remaining companies, Isuzu achieved this (growth by 35 times), but due to the low base of the previous period. There were no significant changes in the model ranking. The leader is still GAZ Gazelle NEXT with a market share of about a quarter. In March of this year, its figure was 2101 sold units - 17% lower than a year ago. The March fall of the Russian LCV market also affected the results of the 1st quarter. So, for this period, its volume was 27.4 thousand cars, which is 0.2% lower than in January-March 2021.
