Experts spoke about automakers that may come to Russia

In the context of the volatility of the ruble and sanctions from the West, most automakers have suspended their activities in our country, and in the future some of them may even leave the Russian market. Experts interviewed by the agency "AUTOSTAT" told who will take the vacated market share and whether it is possible to expect the emergence of new players. According to Sergey Firsov, Executive Director of EXPOCAR, the Russian automotive market is facing definitely a serious crisis and significant structural changes.

First of all, companies with a low level of localization of production, as well as with an insignificant share of sales in the country, can leave Russia. At the same time, leading mass manufacturers such as Hyundai-Kia, Renault-Nissan, according to the expert, will find a way to stay in the market. “We understand that for automakers that have invested heavily in building capacities in Russia, stopping of production entails significant financial losses. This is not only payment for downtime to employees, maintenance of equipment and buildings, and much more, but the main thing is the risk of losing market share, which has been a struggle for decades. Sooner or later, these financial losses will become quite sensitive even at the highest level, an objective assessment of all losses will appear, and a decision will most likely be made to resume the production and supplies,” believes Igor Bader, LADA brand director at Pragmatika Group.

In turn, Alexei Makarov, director of development and corporate governance at Nizhegorodets, believes that the vacated niche of foreign car brands will certainly be filled with pleasure by Chinese brands that are already in line with a desire to enter the Russian market. There are about 15 such brands now; they will be definitely able to build their distribution processes there. So you can already start looking at Chinese brands, given that some of them give a car warranty period of up to 7 years. “It is quite possible that, along with Chinese manufacturers, companies from India may also appear - they have reserves for this.

But I do not believe in the possibility that large Western concerns, such as Volkswagen, will bring their models to our market under some Chinese or Indian brands. With a small market, is it worth risking your reputation? Igor Morzharetto, editor-in-chief of Avtodor radio, said.
