The Russian government has determined a list of goods prohibited for export from the country until December 31st, 2022. The list, in particular, includes cars previously imported from abroad. As follows from the government order, the ban applies to cars and other motor vehicles imported from abroad, including vans and racing cars. At the same time, the innovation does not apply to vehicles designed to carry 10 or more passengers.
At the same time, the ban does not apply to deliveries to the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics. According to the data of the Federal Customs Service (FTS) of Russia, in 2021, the import of passenger cars to Russia grew by 39.4% to 338.9 thousand cars. In addition, 33.8 thousand trucks were imported into our country, which is 40.1% higher than in 2020. Denis Migal, the general director of the Fresh Auto car dealership network, informed the agency "AUTOSTAT" that today the dealers have new cars in their warehouses, but the stock will last for maximum of 2-3 months.
The aggravated situation in Ukraine and the sanctions imposed against Russia have brought the global automotive industry into stagnation, as the volatility of exchange rates and interruptions in supply chains do not allow us to determine yet the possible volumes of production of new cars, respectively, and the price for them, taking into account the increase in the cost of raw materials, components, supply restrictions.
This situation, as well as the decision of some foreign automakers to leave the Russian market, may reduce sales of new cars by 25% by the end of the year if Chinese and Korean manufacturers do not take the share of European and Japanese brands.
