Automakers, which are suspending shipments of cars to Russian dealers, are preparing to revise prices due to the devaluation of the ruble against the backdrop of an aggravated political situation. According to experts, prices will rise by about 20% in the near future, and this will affect a significant part of the market, Kommersant newspaper writes. According to sources in the industry, the dollar exchange rate in case of war was pawned at 100 rubles per dollar. In addition, due to future sanctions restrictions, Western importers will have problems with logistics when supplying cars and components. The situation is still difficult to predict, says the head of Fresh Auto, Denis Migal.

"There will definitely not be price stability in the near future, the question of availability remains open: how to replenish warehouses," he says. According to Mr. Migal, "there is unconfirmed information that banks will adjust rates on consumer and car loans." According to the estimations of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", the weighted average price of a new passenger car in Russia in 2021 grew by 18%, almost reaching the level of 2 million rubles. Experts of the agency "AUTOSTAT" noted that such a sharp jump in the weighted average price last time was in 2015, when it increased by 20%.

In the next five years (2016-2020), its growth has always been less than 10%. In addition to the inflationary component, the increase in new car prices in 2021 was driven by a shortage of new cars from dealers, driven by a global shortage of electronic components, and strong demand from potential buyers. In other words, automakers adjusted their programs, and dealers received fewer cars than they could actually sell. This created additional preconditions for price growth.
