Volkswagen has stopped the accepting of orders in Russia for the Passat sedan model, which will be discontinued. Sedan sales are declining from year to year, and the Volkswagen brand is responding to these changes in demand. Demand trends continue to shift towards the SUV segment, the automaker said in a statement. At the same time, the off-road station wagon Passat Alltrack continues to be sold in the Russian market. Recall that the updated Volkswagen Passat sedan appeared in Russia in February of 2020 and is currently offered in two trim levels - Business and Exclusive - worth 2 million 733 thousand rubles and 3 million 016 thousand rubles, respectively.
The model is available with two petrol engines to choose from: the base 1.4 (150 hp) and the 2-liter, issuing 190 hp. Both powertrains are available with a 7-speed DSG transmission. Meanwhile, the heir to the European Volkswagen Passat will still appear. But in the next generation, which is expected in 2023, the model will become even more related to the platform Skoda Superb. Instead of a sedan, there will be a liftback (although the station wagon will remain in the range), and such Trade Winds will not be produced in Germany, but in Slovakia - on the same conveyor with the Skoda Superb.
In addition, a large electric sedan of the Volkswagen ID family on the MEB platform will become a partial replacement for the Passat: the Volkswagen I.D Vizzion concept became its harbinger back in 2018. Now the Passat-sedan has remained only in China, but it is a separate, larger model there.
