Mitsubishi plans to increase sales in Russia by a quarter in 2022


By the end of 2022, MMS Rus plans to sell about 35,000 new cars in Russia, which is 26% higher than the previous year (27,699 cars). Osamu Iwaba, president and chief executive officer of MMS Rus, said it by adding that the Russian car market, according to the company's forecast, will increase by 3% to 1.7 million cars in general. According to him, the previous year's result of Mitsubishi, which showed a slight decrease in sales by 1.6% in Russia, was primarily affected by the shortage of semiconductors and interruptions in logistics, which caused a decrease in production volumes at the PSMA Rus plant in Kaluga, where the most massive models - Mitsubishi Outlander crossover and Pajero Sport frame SUV.

Under these conditions, MMC Rus tried to increase the supply of imported Mitsubishi ASX and Eclipse Cross crossovers as much as possible. It should be also noted that at the end of 2021, MMS Rus sold 2,512 vehicles to corporate clients, which accounted for 9% of the brand's total sales. The most popular Mitsubishi models in the corporate segment are the L200 pickup and the Outlander crossover. In addition, every third new Mitsubishi car (7.8 thousand units) was sold on credit from JSC MS Bank Rus the previous year, where the Outlander crossover remains the leader in demand among borrowers.

As for the MMC Rus dealer network, which currently has 111 centers throughout Russia, during 2021, 63 Mitsubishi dealerships in Russia were re-registered according to new standards, and five dealer centers opened their doors to customers for the first time. In 2022, other 15 car dealerships in the new format are expected to open, while an overall increase in the number of dealerships is not planned.
