Ministry of Economy recommended 19 regions to introduce incentives for electric transport

The Ministry of Economy in a number of regions recommended that regional authorities take additional measures to increase the attractiveness of owning electric cars. Following the example of Moscow, where electric vehicle owners are not charged a transport tax, free parking is organized for “green cars”, and some areas of the city are declared forbidden for cars with a low environmental class - such measures are recommended to be extended to 19 more regions of the country, as a pilot. This was reported by several federal editions of Russia at once.

The 19 regions include Rostov, Sakhalin regions, Primorye, Tatarstan, Sevastopol, Crimea and others. These subjects are recommended to develop charging networks in their territories (we are talking about the construction of slow charging stations) and consider additional benefits for owners. Recall that, according to the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT", as of June 1st, 2021, 12.3 thousand passenger electric vehicles were registered in the Russian fleet. Most of them are concentrated in three federal districts - the Far East, Siberian and Central. They account for almost 3/4 of the country's total electric transport (74.4% of the total). However, experts believe that the proposed measures are not enough to attract mass car owners to this segment.

Just as the efforts of manufacturers are not enough, which have recently begun to offer more actively Russians their developments on electric traction. The main barrier on the way of such cars fleet expanding is the price, which has grown since the new year - due to the abolition of zero customs duty on the import of cars. From January 1st, 2022, when importing an electric car, you have to pay a duty in the amount of 15% of its value now (the benefit was valid for two years), and this is a significant surcharge on already expensive car. Probably, the authorities hope that the customs barrier will spur automakers to start the assembly of electric cars in Russia and speed up this process.
