The Russian automotive market, which showed a slight decline in January, took the fifth place in the European ranking. According to the data received by the agency "AUTOSTAT" in the national associations of automakers in Europe, Germany remains the leader in the sale of cars the previous year, where 184,112 cars were sold (+8.5%). According to the German Automobile Industry Association (VDA), a positive result was recorded for the first time since June of the previous year.

In addition, orders for new cars grew by 53%, which allows us to expect continued sales growth in the future. The UK ranked the second among the largest European car markets with 115,087 cars (+27.5%). According to the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Car Dealers (SMMT), the positive result is due to the low base of the previous year - as a part of measures to counter the second wave of coronavirus, showrooms of car dealerships across England were closed in January 2021, while remote sales of cars were allowed. The third result was shown by Italy – 107,814 cars (-19.7%). France is the next, the dealers of which sold 102,901 vehicles (-18.6%). Thus, the negative dynamics of sales in this country is recorded for the eighth month in a row.

If, when considering the automotive market in Europe, Russia is taken into account, then our country took the fifth place of the European rating. Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were 91,662 units (-4%) the previous month, according to the Association of European Businesses.
