Passenger car exports grew by 37% in 2021


The export of passenger cars from Russia in 2021 grew by 37.2% and reached 89.1 thousand units for a total of $1 billion 398.2 million, according to the Federal Customs Service (FCS) of Russia. At the same time, 8.4 thousand cars were sent to foreign markets in December (+10.4% against November) for $131.9 million.

It should be noted that AVTOVAZ remains the largest exporter of passenger cars in 2021 with 35.8 thousand delivered cars (+9.4%). Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant increased exports by 57% to 5,703 vehicles, including 1,717 units for non-CIS markets and 3,986 vehicles for the CIS countries. The leader among automakers of foreign cars is Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg, which supplied more than 24,000 cars and vehicle sets to foreign markets (+25%).

Volkswagen Group Rus exported 11.5 thousand Russian-made Volkswagen and Skoda cars to the CIS countries (+10%). Renault's Moscow plant produced 8,700 cars for foreign markets; Nissan's plant in St. Petersburg produced 4,424 crossovers (+37%). In addition, Tula plant Haval arranged deliveries of cars to the CIS countries the previous year, by supplying 1561 cars to Belarus, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. The export of trucks grew by 11.1% the previous year and reached 13.4 thousand vehicles for $356.1 million. In December, 1.7 thousand trucks were delivered abroad (+28.6% against November) for $46.7 million.

We add that in 2021, Sollers Ford enterprise increased the export deliveries of Ford Transit by 15% to 634 vehicles. In addition, PSMA Rus plant in Kaluga assembled the first Peugeot Expert, Opel Vivaro and Citroen Jumpy commercial vans in December of the previous year for export deliveries to Western Europe, which will begin in February 2022. By the end of the year, the company also plans to start the assembly of a commercial Fiat Scudo model intended for export.
