KAMAZ may launch the production of electric vehicles in Hungary

On January 24th, 2022, KAMAZ and the Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology signed an agreement of intent in the VKS format, which provides for the further development of partnership in the production of electric vehicles in Hungary. According to the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, cooperation will be carried out in two stages, the first of which will be devoted to joint research and development. It will be followed by the launch of production facilities.

By the middle of the decade, it is planned to produce about 32 thousand electric vehicles per a year, and by 2030 this figure will increase 10 times. Recall that KAMAZ participated in the development of the electric vehicle "Kama-1", in the future, a subsidiary of KAMAZ - the company JSC "Kama" will be engaged in the production of a promising novelty. According to Sergey Kogogin, General Director of KAMAZ, who invested in the project together with businessman Ruben Vardanyan, the production site for the production of the electric car has not been determined yet. According to preliminary forecasts, the new electric car will go on sale in 2024-2025 and will be focused on operation in carsharing and taxis.

As AUTOSTAT previously reported, the first prototype, Kama-1, was presented in December 2020, and in the first quarter of 2022, the presentation of the promising Kama electric car, which will differ from its predecessor, will take place. So, the serial electric car will be more powerful than the prototype that debuted in 2020: the production of the electric motor will be 150 hp against 109 hp at the Kama-1 concept. The electric motor feeds the battery (in the prototype, its capacity was 33 kilowatt-hours), one charge of which is enough for 450 km.

The maximum speed of the city car is 150 km/h. There was also information about the dimensions of the car: it reaches a length of 4.4 m, a width of 1.8 m, and a height of 1.66 m. The curb weight is 1690 kg. For comparison, the length of the pre-production prototype "Kama-1" was 3.4 m, and the declared power reserve was at the level of 250 km.
