Opel Astra will return to Russia at the end of 2022

At the end of 2022, Stellantis automotive alliance intends to resume the sales of the once popular Opel Astra hatchback in Russia. Alexey Volodin, Managing Director of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel brands in Russia, announced this. In addition, according to him, in the second half of the year, Russian dealers will have an updated crossover Opel Grandland, which will be available both with internal combustion engines and with a hybrid power plant.

Recall that today Opel model range in Russia includes Granland X and Crossland crossovers, as well as light commercial vehicles Vivaro, Zafira Life, Combo Cargo and Combo Life. At the same time, most likely, before the end of the year, Opel Astra may not have time to arrive to customers. As Stellantis senior vice president, head of the Eurasia alliance region Xavier Duchman explained, dealers will begin the receiving of cars in the fourth quarter of this year, and they should become available to buyers from 2023. The top manager hopes that the novelty will sell better in Russia than other Opel passenger models - the company expects to sell about 1,500 Opel Astras in the first year of sales.

Mr. Dyushman clarified that the option of local assembly in Russia for Opel Astra is not being considered, because the company is focused on development in the LCV segment. According to him, the new Opel Astra will be offered in Russia with a 1.2-liter petrol turbo engine with a capacity of 110 or 130 hp, the final cost of the novelty has not been determined yet.
