Experts told how the crisis in Kazakhstan will affect the Russian auto industry

The political and economic situation in Kazakhstan in January inevitably affected the automotive industry. The experts interviewed by the AUTOSTAT agency told how this will affect the supply of Kazakh-made cars to our country, and how much Russian car plants, for which Kazakhstan is traditionally the largest export market, may suffer from the crisis in this republic.

According to Vadim Artamonov, executive director of Keles Rus, the January events in Kazakhstan had practically no effect on the supply of Chevrolet Cobalt and Nexia cars to Russia. The fact is that preventive work is traditionally carried out at the UzAuto Motors enterprise in Uzbekistan during the New Year holidays, and in order to avoid a gap in supplies, a backlog of car kits and cars is created in advance. Thanks to this, SaryarkaAvtoProm plant, which produces Chevrolet Cobalt and Nexia models for the Russian market, continued to operate even during the days of protest events, which, as you know, took place mainly in the south of Kazakhstan, and car shipments were suspended only for the period of emergency. To date, Keles Rus has returned to standard work with its colleagues from Kazakhstan and does not see any risks for further cooperation related to the internal political situation in this republic.

“All deliveries of cars from Kazakhstan to Russia for the last year are 5-7 thousand units. For the Russian market, which for the same period showed almost 1.7 million sold cars, a possible decrease in supplies from Kazakhstan can be easily compensated by local manufacturers, - comments Artur Miskaryan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the KazAvtoProm Association.
