The Russian car market remained the fourth one in Europe in 2021

The Russian automotive market, which showed the slight growth in 2021, nevertheless remained in fourth place in the European ranking.

According to the data received by the agency "AUTOSTAT" in the national associations of automakers in Europe, Germany remains the leader in the sale of cars the previous year, where 2 million 622 thousand 132 cars were sold (-10.1%). France holds the second place among the largest European car markets with 1 million 659 thousand 018 cars (+0.5%). Thus, a positive result was recorded after a drop in sales a year before. The third result was shown by Great Britain - 1 million 647 thousand 181 cars (+1%).

According to the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Car Dealers (SMMT), the positive result is largely due to the low base of the previous year, and in compare with the “pre-COVID”2019 the sales figures were 28.7% lower. If, when considering the automotive market in Europe, Russia is taken into account, then our country remains the fourth one in the European rating. According to the Association of European Businesses, sales of passenger cars were 1 million 536 thousand 089 units the last year (excluding LCV).

Italy still finishes the top-five of European leaders, its dealers sold 1 million 456 thousand 212 cars (+5.4%). We also add that the Spanish car market grew by 1% and reached 859,496 cars the previous year.
