Hyundai plant increased the production by 7% in St. Petersburg in 2021

By the end of 2021, St. Petersburg Hyundai plant produced 234 thousand cars, which is 6.5% higher than a year before. In particular, 71 thousand Hyundai Solaris sedans (+ 31%) and 71 thousand Hyundai Creta crossovers (-5%) rolled off the assembly line of the enterprise, the press service of the Korean brand reports. The Kia Rio sedan and the Rio X cross-hatchback accounted for the rest 92 thousand vehicles (+ 2%).

It should be noted that in July of this year, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant launched the mass production of the second generation of the Hyundai Creta crossover. Investments in the modernization of production facilities for the production of new items were more than $ 100 million. As the general director of the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Rus plant, Joo Soochone, noted, in the outgoing year, the HMMR plant, like other car plants, faced a shortage of auto components and, in particular, semiconductors. However, "HMMR" managed to avoid practically interruptions in production, including through the use of alternative routes for the transportation of imported auto components - by rail and through the port in Novorossiysk.

New routes made it possible to reduce the delivery time of components by one and a half and in some cases more than two times. Meanwhile, in the fourth quarter, 1.6-liter engines manufactured at the Russian plant of the Hyundai WIA Company began to arrive at the XMMP conveyor. Recall that Hyundai Wia opened an engine production plant in St. Petersburg in September 2021. Upon reaching full production capacity, Hyundai WIA plant will become the largest manufacturer of foreign brand engines in Russia. We also add that in 2021 the Russian Hyundai plant exported more than 24 thousand cars and car sets to neighboring countries, which is 25% higher than in the previous year.
