8% of vehicles in Russia were produced during the Soviet era

30 years ago, on December 26th, 1991, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) ceased to exist. On the occasion of this date, the experts of the AUTOSTAT agency decided to cite some facts that clearly characterize the fleet of the Soviet period. According to the agency, in Russia there are 4.68 million vehicles produced during the Soviet era. That is, this is a technique released before 1992, and in the countries that were part of the Soviet Union.

Today it owns 8% of all vehicles registered in the Russian Federation in mid-2021. 90% of Soviet equipment was produced in the RSFSR that is 4.21 million units. Other 4.9% left the conveyors of enterprises of the Byelorussian SSR (230 thousand units), and 4.8% - of the Ukrainian SSR (225 thousand units). In Soviet Georgia and Latvia, respectively, 8 thousand and 5 thousand vehicles were assembled, which are still registered in our country. The remaining approximately 2,000 units were produced in other Soviet republics.

The largest share of equipment produced in the USSR is noted in the motorcycle segment - 60%. In quantitative terms, this is equal to 1.36 million units. Among trucks, these figures are approximately 32%, or 1.19 million vehicles. In other words, it is every third truck in the country. In the segment of trailers / semi-trailers of Soviet technology, there are 405 thousand units - about 12% of the total. There are such 9% (37 thousand units) among buses, and among cars - 3.6% (1.63 million units). The LCV segment has the smallest share of Soviet vehicles - only 1.4% (57 thousand units).
