Forecasts of the Russian automobile market development will be reviewed

Soon financial crisis, which is observed by the whole business world, will have a strong negative impact on the Russian automobile market. That is the opinion of Sergey Tselikov, the director of the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT".
American and European automobile markets have been demonstrating negative records for some months. Only in September sales in America decreased 20 percent and in Europe - 9.2 percent. Industry experts forecast that sales decline in 2008 will be more than during the crisis at the beginning of 1990s. According to the words of Sergey Tselikov first symptoms of negative impact on the Russian market were already noticed in August when sales fell 10 percent down on the local market to 235 000 vehicles versus previous summer months. Though in comparison to the last year there is still a positive dynamics, up 5.3 percent in August. Automobile manufacturers have not announced data about September sales yet but experts say that figures will be probably on the same level as in August. Further dynamics of the Russian automobile market is slightly forecasted yet but clearly it will not be optimistic.
According to Sergey Tselikov financial crisis reached its pick and its influence on the country economy and consumer desire has not been specified in particular figures and factors yet. However it is clear that it became more difficult to buy a car in credit than a couple of months ago. Requirements to borrowers are being increased, interest rates are growing and some banks are even reducing automobile credit programs. If this tendency continues next year the share of sales in credit may reduce twice, from 50 percent to 20-30 percent. So the Russian market capacity may scale down 20-25 percent.
Experts mention one more tendency which may be born" by this crisis. It is short-term surge of new car sales by cash. Some people who save money at home in critical moments begin to invest it in material assets such as land, flats, summer houses, cars and household appliances. But it is a short-term activity and after such surge there is a pause as usual.
According to Sergey Tselikov"s words after data processing for the third quarter of 2008 the analytical agency "AUTOSTAT" is going to review its forecasts for the Russian automobile market development. It is difficult to say now how much these data will be corrected but most probably annual sales level in 3.16 million of new cars will not be achieved. However sales figures practically of all foreign brands will be positive versus 2007.
