The Russian car market, which continued to fall in double digits in November, nevertheless retained its second place in the ranking of the largest car markets in Europe.
According to the data received by the AUTOSTAT agency in the national associations of European automakers, Germany became the leader in car sales last month, where 198,258 cars were sold (-31.7%). If, when considering the European automotive market, we take into account Russia, then our country keeps the second line of the European rating. According to the Association of European Businesses, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, excluding Mercedes-Benz and BMW, in November were 125,466 units (-20.4%).
The third result was shown by France – 121,995 cars, which is 3.2% lower than the previous year. Great Britain is the next with 115,706 sold cars (+ 1.7%). As noted in the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Auto Dealers (SMMT), a positive result was recorded for the first time after four months of decline, due to a low base the previous year - as a part of measures to counter the second wave of coronavirus in November 2020, showrooms of car dealerships were closed throughout England, while distance sales of cars were allowed.
Italy still finishes the top five of European leaders, the dealers of which reduced sales by 24.6% to 104,478 cars. We also add that the Spanish car market in November decreased by 12.3% and amounted to 66,399 cars. As noted in the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Cars and Trucks (ANFAC), due to the shortage of cars, dealers have formed a waiting list of more than 100 thousand customers who will be able to make a purchase next year.
