The rise in prices also plays a negative role - against the background of the heated shortage of cars in the salons, "an inflationary spiral is being formed," the analyst said. And the drop in real incomes of the population, multiplied by the desire to overtake the rise in prices and still buy a car, give only a temporary effect to the credit business. Yes, people are starting to apply for loans more often, but they are starting to focus on cheaper cars, switching from new cars to used ones - and this is a minus for the development of this segment of the banking business. On the other hand, in a situation of falling incomes, “the loan client either defaults or reaches the threshold for the level of debt load”

... Dealer “terrorism”, according to Mr.Sukhov, also makes a negative contribution to the process. Against the background of a shortage of cars in showrooms, dealers themselves put clients on loans, by offering them more expensive configurations. At the same time, they get good profits and pay off their creditors faster (ahead of schedule) - thus, banks lending to dealers lose their marginality. They also lose their marginality on car loans due to the growth in the level of interest rates: in 2021, the Central Bank of the Russian Federation raised the key rate 6 times already. In recent years, consumer lending has become increasingly an active competitor to car loans, where the offered rates may be lower than for car loans, and more convenient - for a number of reasons. New services that have appeared in the car market – car sharing, taxi and subscription - also began to create direct competition for car loans.

On the one hand, they affect negatively the production and sales of new cars (one such car can replace several personal ones), on the other, the number of young drivers who want to buy their own car is decreasing. Psychology is changing, so far only in large cities - young people want "not to own, but to use."
