The car market is waiting for another jump in prices due to the abolition of export duties on steel

The Association of Russian Automakers (UAR) sent a letter to the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a proposal to keep the export duties on metal products for 2022. As the executive director of the UAR Igor Korovkin said, it is necessary to regulate prices for metal within the country for the next year, and metallurgists should first of all work for the domestic market. In turn, Sergey Gromak, vice-president of AVTOVAZ for external relations and interaction with shareholders, believes that as soon as export duties on metals are over, an explosive rise in prices for them will begin again and, as a result, prices for cars will rise.

However, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that the department did not see the need to extend export duties on metal products to avoid an increase in car prices. Meanwhile, it became known earlier that AVTOVAZ intends to increase prices for its models from December 1st, 2021. Thus, this will be the seventh massive increase in prices for LADA since the beginning of this year. Earlier the head of the Rostech state corporation Sergei Chemezov said that AVTOVAZ plans to keep the cost of LADA cars lower than that of foreign competitors. According to him, AVTOVAZ in its pricing policy is guided, among other things, by the price dynamics of LADA's closest competitors - Korean Hyundai and Kia.

In general, against the backdrop of fluctuations in the ruble, inflation and regular indexation of utilization fee, it sometimes seems that car prices are growing almost non-stop. So, for the last seven years, starting in 2014, when the ruble collapsed, the weighted average cost of a new car in our country has grown by 90%, according to the data of the AUTOSTAT agency. In the past year, this growth has largely spurred a shortage of cars in the car market caused by a shortage of electronic components in the automotive industry. As a result, since the beginning of 2021, the average price tag in Russian car dealerships has increased by more than 20%,
