Mazda refused the production of CX-3 compact crossover

Mazda will discontinue the production of the CX-3 subcompact crossover, which was unveiled at the November 2014 in Los Angeles Auto Show and has never changed a generation since then. The model entered the European market in the summer of next year, and in the USA it went on sale at the end of 2015 as a replacement for the small Mazda2 hatchback, the demand for which left much to be desired.

Earlier it was reported that 2021 will be the last for the Mazda CX-3 only in the North American market, where this crossover has not been able to gain popularity: since 2016, annual sales have not exceeded 20 thousand cars. Now it became known that the model will also leave Europe. Acceptance of orders has been already suspended, and the production will stop in December. The CX-3 niche will be occupied by the larger CX-30 crossover, with which the outgoing model constituted unnecessary internal competition.

In addition, Mazda plans to expand the range of crossovers: in 2022, the CX-60 and CX-80 SUVs with hybrid powertrains will appear in Europe, and in the USA - the large CX-70 and CX-90, as well as the compact CX-50. In the European market, Mazda CX-3 was offered with two 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G petrol engines with 121 or 150 hp, as well as a 115-horsepower 1.8 Skyactiv-D diesel engine. In our country, the Mazda CX-3 is not for sale, and after the recent departure of the CX-30, there are only three models in the Russian Mazda lineup: the CX-5 and CX-9 crossovers, as well as Mazda6 sedan.
