Experts informed how many cars the Russian car market will miss in 2021

In the context of an aggravated deficit in the Russian car market, the gap between supply and demand is only increasing every month. Experts interviewed by the AUTOSTAT agency told how many unsold cars dealers will miss in 2021 and when the deferred demand that has formed during the shortage in the car market will be realized. “It's not a secret that the negative dynamics in the Russian car market is primarily due to the lack of cars at manufacturers.

There is consumer demand - there is not enough supply. I do not think that by the end of the year we will see an improvement in the situation ... Automobile plants in Europe and Asia have already announced a forced vacation, which does not add optimism to the forecasts. Based on the low base of the previous year, while we see a total plus for the year 5-7% ... ", - said the President of the Association ROAD, Vyacheslav Zubarev.

According to Vladimir Miroshnikov, Development Director of ROLF, it is already clear that the deficit will persist until the end of the year and beyond. This means that even with an optimistic scenario, the market of new cars in 2021 will surpass the previous year's result by no more than 5%, and if the situation with availability deteriorates, it may go into negative territory by the end of the year. In turn, Yulia Ovchinnikova, the development director of the KLYUCHAVTO auto holding, assumes that by the end of 2021 about 1 million 740 thousand cars will be sold, and if there was no deficit, this figure would be more by 15%. According to the forecasts of Andrey Olkhovsky, General Director of Avtodom Group of Companies, the gap between demand and supply will be narrowed at the beginning of 2023 or at the very end of 2022.

At present, the deferred demand cannot be fully realized. “The average waiting time for an ordered car has grown by 1-1.5 months, if we talk about the mass segment, in the premium segment the situation is slightly worse - the waiting period has been increased by 1.5-2 months, of course, depending on the brand and model. As a result, this is reflected in the general statistics for the month and year, ” sums up AVILON Marketing Director, Andrey Kamensky.
