Avtotor agrees to supply engines from Hyundai WIA plant


Kaliningrad plant "Avtotor" is working on the issue of supplying engines from the Hyundai WIA enterprise that recently opened in St. Petersburg. According to the press service of Avtotor, this work is being carried out within the framework of a program to deepen the localization of car production at an enterprise in Kaliningrad.

“Already today we see a line of cars on which we will use 1.6-liter engines and as the project develops, also 2.0-liter engines,” said Dmitry Chemakin, the director of the Avtotor Localization and Outsourcing Center. The plans for the development of the localization program include an increase in the range and volume of purchases of components from domestic suppliers, including the expansion of the number of suppliers located in the Kaliningrad region and other regions of the country.

In 2021, special attention will be paid to the localization of vehicle control systems and telematics - electronic systems, driver support systems, radars, cameras, etc. Let us remind you that today Avtotor produces cars under the brands BMW, Kia and Hyundai. At the end of 2020, the total volume of purchases of auto components by Avtotor in the domestic market of the Eurasian Economic Union in 2020 was 1.98 billion rubles.
