Automakers have found a new reason to raise prices

In addition to the global shortage of electronic components, a more ambitious problem looms for the world's carmakers: energy prices are sharply rising. In these conditions, car companies will be forced to increase the cost of cars. “Metallurgy is one of the most energy-consuming industries. Obviously, manufacturers of steel and other metals will raise the cost of their products, including for carmakers. Following them, car companies will also have to increase the cost of a car for consumers,” said Sergey Burgazliev, an independent consultant for the auto industry.

In addition, according to him, the rise in prices for gas and oil, which are raw materials for the chemical industry, will also lead to an increase in the cost of production of plastic and rubber parts for cars, which will become an additional factor for the rise in prices. As AUTOSTAT reported earlier, the weighted average price of a new passenger car in Russia in August this year was 2 million 140 thousand rubles. Thus, this figure has passed the 2 million mark. Let us remind that the prices for new cars in our country continue to grow - in the wake of a shortage of cars at dealerships caused by the global shortage of microchips and high demand from potential buyers.

So, in June the weighted average price was more than 1.8 million rubles, in July it already exceeded 1.9 million rubles, and in August it increased by other 200 thousand rubles. If we compare the current figure with the one at the beginning of the year, then the weighted average price of a new passenger car for the period from January to August grew by 21%. But taking into account the current situation on the market, experts are confident that the rise in prices for cars will continue, which means that their weighted average price as a whole for the whole of 2021 could grow by 25%.
