The Russian car market fell by 23% in September

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in September fell by 22.6% to 119,485 vehicles. According to the results of nine months of 2021, the Russian car market was 1 million 260 thousand 111 cars (+ 15.1%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses. As noted in the AEB, the well-known shortage of cars in the market associated with a decrease in production and the global problem of shortages of semiconductors, as well as new worrisome factors such as the energy crisis in China and the UK, rising costs of raw materials and other problems, will support the negative trend in the next few months.

At the moment, the market situation is extremely unstable, but in November the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee will try to revise its market forecast for 2021. According to the Association's current forecast, by the end of 2021, 1 million 756 thousand passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold in Russia, which means a market growth of 9.8% in compare with the previous year. Leadership in the Russian car market is held by the LADA brand, the sales of which in September fell by 51% and reached 17,189 vehicles.

The second place in terms of sales is kept by Kia - sales of 17,037 cars (-16%) ensured the Korean brand's leadership in the foreign car market. The third place is occupied by Hyundai with 13,624 sold cars, which is 26% lower than a year ago. This is followed by Toyota - cars of this brand were chosen by 10,039 buyers (+ 18%).

Volkswagen finishes the top five this time with 7752 sales (-27%). The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in September also included Renault (7511 units, -46%), Skoda (6438 units, -33%), GAZ (5199 units, + 17%), Nissan (4092 units, -27%) and Haval (3513 units, an increase of 2.5 times).
