GAZ Group presented hydrogen-fueled electric buses


Within the framework of the International Exhibition Comtrans 2021, GAZ Group presented electric buses powered by hydrogen fuel cells (water buses). On the basis of serially produced GAZ buses, the company has developed two models of innovative transport for different types of routes - a large-class CITYMAX Hydrogen bus with a capacity of 85 people and a small-class GAZelle City bus for carrying 22 passengers, the press service of GAZ Group reports.

Thus, the new models expand the range of the company's equipment operating on various types of fuel: diesel, gas, gasoline, electricity. As noted, the main advantage of the hydrogen bus compared to electric vehicles without fuel cells is the increased range. At one gas station, hydrogen buses can travel 350 km, which is enough even for the longest city routes. The buses are equipped with hydrogen fuel cells, a hydrogen supply and storage system, traction batteries and an electric engine. The car is fueled with hydrogen, which then enters the fuel cell, where it interacts with oxygen to generate electricity. Electric batteries serve as an on-board source of electricity, the demand for which depends on the driving conditions of the vehicle.

The advantage of the hydrogen buses developed by the GAZ Group is the possibility of additional charging from the electric network for travel on the part of the route where there is no hydrogen filling. In the hydrogen buses presented at the exhibition, constructive solutions were used with various types of cylinder placement: on the large-class model, the cylinders are installed on the roof, in the small-class model - behind the front wheels in special niches and in the luggage compartment.
