The first hydrogen bus is ready for experimental tests in Moscow


At the XVI international exhibition COMTRANS-2021, which is now taking place in Moscow, KAMAZ presented a new product in the passenger transport segment. The KAMAZ-6290 bus is built on the basis of electric buses, which have been actively defiling along the roads of the capital for several years. However, with the help of new technologies - hydrogen - such a "bus" has become even more environmentally friendly and is able to travel almost 3 times more on a single charge than a conventional electric bus.

For comparison: the power reserve of the prototype bus is 250 km (70 km for the electric bus). In addition to the increased power reserve, the hydrogen electric bus does not need a diesel heater to heat the passenger compartment. Heat is generated by combining hydrogen with oxygen. The battery power in comparison with a conventional electric bus in a hydrogen one has already been reduced to 60 kW / h. The entire power plant, together with six hydrogen cylinders (hydrogen weighing about 24 kg), is located on the roof - and, accordingly, is safe: in an open space, even with the resulting leakage, hydrogen will simply evaporate due to its lightness.

The maximum speed of the hydrogen bus is identical to that of electric buses - 80 km / h, the cruising range is 250 km. The new eco-transport is adapted to operate at ambient temperatures from -40 ° to +40 degrees. It is known that the prototype will begin testing in Moscow during this year (there is an autonomous hydrogen filling station in Chernogolovka near Moscow). By the way, at the same exhibition, KAMAZ presented another vehicle with a hydrogen plant - a cargo refrigerator designed for the transportation of perishable goods, with a cruising range of 500 km (power plant with a capacity of 170 kW / h, battery weight - about 45 kg).
