Leaders and outsiders of the Russian car market in the 1st quarter of 2022

The Russian car market fell by 17% in August

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in August fell by 17% to 114,130 vehicles. According to the results of eight months of 2021, Russian car market was 1 million 067 thousand 890 cars (+ 21.3%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses. As noted in the AEB, although demand remains stable, the decline in production due to a shortage of electronic components in the world market continues to widen the gap between supply and demand, having a negative impact on sales.

With no signs of a quick fix to this problem, the association expects sales volatility and further market contraction in the next few months. Taking into account the current trend, AEB leaves its forecast for the end of the year (+ 9.8%) unchanged for now, but will return to this issue after the third quarter. Leadership in the Russian car market is held by LADA brand, the sales of which in August fell by 32% and reached 19,428 vehicles.

The second place in terms of sales volume is kept by Kia - sales of 17,277 cars (-13%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. The third line is occupied by Hyundai with 14,106 sold cars, which is 19% lower than a year ago. Renault is the next - cars of this brand were chosen by 9,699 buyers (-11%). This time Toyota finishes the top five with sales of 6848 cars (-4%). Volkswagen (6754 units, -41%), Skoda (5497 units, -39%), GAZ (5161 units, + 34%), Chery (2956 units, an increase of 2.6 times) and Nissan (2,770 units, -28%) also entered the TOP-10 of the best-selling brands in August.
