German car market fell by a quarter in July


German car market fell by 24.9% in July and reached 236,393 cars. Thus, a negative result was recorded for the first time after four months of growth. At the end of seven months of 2021, sales of new cars in Germany were 1 million 627 thousand 282 units (+ 6.7%). As noted in the Association of the German Automotive Industry (VDA), the local car market is still far from the dock-like level – in compare with January-July 2019, the current sales figure was worse by 25%.

According to the data obtained by AUTOSTAT agency in the Federal Transport Agency of Germany (KBA), Volkswagen became the best-selling brand in the German market, which sold 49,808 cars in July (-16.6%). Mercedes-Benz is the second one, which reduced sales by 37.6% to 21,456 units. The third place is occupied by BMW, the result of which was 20437 vehicles (-27.7%). This time, Audi (17533 units, -23.3%) and Opel (13631 units, + 16%) finished the top-five.
