Dynamics of car sales by segments for 9 months of 2020

The Russian car market in July occupied the second place in Europe

The Russian car market, which returned to decline in July, nevertheless rose to second place in the ranking of the largest car markets in Europe. Passenger car sales fell by 25.6% down to 864,538 cars in Western Europe in July, according to LMC Automotive consulting company. For seven months of 2021, sales of cars in Western Europe were 6 million 723 thousand 831 units, which is 16.9% higher than a year before.

Germany remains the leader in car sales the last month, where 236,393 cars were sold (-24.9%). Thus, a negative result was recorded for the first time after four months of growth. If, when considering the European automotive market, we take into account Russia, then our country has risen to the second place of the European rating. According to the Association of European Businesses, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were 132,640 units (-6.5%) the last month. The third place among the largest European car markets was occupied by Great Britain with 123,296 cars (-29.5%).

As noted in the British Society of Automobile Manufacturers and Auto Dealers (SMMT), this is the worst result in July since 1998, and the negative dynamics is due to the beginning of a recovery in sales in July 2020 after the lockdown due to the coronavirus epidemic.
