The government will extend the moratorium on the mandatory installation of "ERA-GLONASS" for the Far East

The Government of the Russian Federation will once again extend the temporary procedure for the import of used right-hand drive vehicles without installing the ERA-GLONASS system. Recall that until December 3, 2021, residents of the Far East are allowed to import one such vehicle per year for personal use. The relief can be used by car owners registered in the Far Eastern Federal District, as well as those who plan to move there for permanent residence.

Now the preferential order will be extended for one more year - until December 3, 2022, according to the press service of the Russian government. The corresponding draft government decision was instructed to submit to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Federal Customs Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs by October 1.

According to the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, as of January 1st, 2021, right-hand drive vehicles account for 8% of the Russian vehicle fleet. However, as experts note, in different regions of the country the share of the right-hand drive is noticeably different. So, in the Primorsky Territory, 83% of all passenger cars are right-hand drive. In almost all regions of the Far East, this figure exceeds 50%. Meanwhile, in Moscow, the right-hand drive accounts for only 0.22% of the fleet, in St. Petersburg - 0.31%.
