Moscow will switch completely to electric buses from 2025

Moscow will use only electric buses on city routes from 2025. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, by noting that the Russian capital is the leader in Europe in terms of the number of electric buses. Recall that the first electric buses entered the streets of Moscow in the autumn of 2018.

Under the terms of the contracts, in 2018-2021, domestic manufacturers GAZ and KAMAZ delivered 600 electric buses to the capital. As Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said earlier, the plans for the coming years are to increase the fleet of electric buses to 2,200 vehicles, which will be almost a third of the capital's land transport fleet. As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, in May 2021, KAMAZ signed another, fourth contract for the supply of electric buses to GUP Mosgortrans. Under the terms of the agreement, KAMAZ will supply Moscow with a total of 350 KAMAZ-6282 electric buses. It should be noted that within the framework of the fourth contract, KAMAZ electric buses, assembled directly in the Russian capital, will be supplied for the first time.

As a reminder, at the end of April 2021, KAMAZ opened an assembly plant for electric buses on the basis of the Sokolniki Railway Car Repair and Construction Plant. The created production facilities are designed to assemble up to 500 electric buses per a year. At the second stage of production development, it is planned to reconstruct another SVARZ workshop with an area of 3,000 square meters by 2023, which will allow an additional production of 200 electric buses per a year. The 100 high-tech jobs have been created in production, and their number will double by 2023. Investments in the project were 325 million rubles.

As noted, the opening of an assembly plant for KAMAZ electric buses at the Sokolnichesky Car Repair and Construction Plant is a part of large program to replace the bus fleet in Moscow. The old vehicles in the capital will be replaced by electric buses: the city authorities have practically stopped purchasing diesel buses.
