    In 2018, sales of new cars in Russia grew by 12.8% in compare with 2017. Both segments - the mass and premium ones - also showed the growth (+ 13.9% and + 7.4%, respectively). Sales of cars of mass brands reached 1 572 246 units in 2018, the share of which is 91.2% of the total sales volume.

Uwe Hochgeschurtz to become Opel CEO from 1 September

Uwe Hochgeschurtz, CEO Renault Germany, Austria and Switzerland, will take over as Opel Brand CEO from 1 September, 2021 and succeed Michael Lohscheller. This is officially announced by Stellantis Group (Opel is part of this Group along with 13 other brands). Uwe Hochgeschurtz will report directly to Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares.

An interesting fact from Uwe’s biography: during his 30-year career in the automotive market, he managed to work in various companies - in American Ford, German Volkswagen, French Renault, now there will be Opel. He studied business administration in Germany (Wuppertal & Cologne Universities), Great Britain (Birmingham University) and France (Paris Dauphine University). Stellantis management believes that thanks to his rich experience, the new Opel CEO, having entered the company at a new stage of its history, will be able to implement long-term plans successfully.

We should remind that Opel withdrew from the Russian automotive market in 2015, but returned to it in 2019 and intends to increase its presence. As AUTOSTAT has already reported, in the first half of 2021, Opel dealers in Russia sold 870 vehicles, which is almost 15 times more than in the same period last year. Management of Opel Eurasia has recently announced its plans to expand its model lineup and launch 1 - 2 new products every year.
