RGS Bank: 12% of Russians would like to buy a motorcycle

RGS Bank (part of the Otkrytie Bank Group) in advance of Motorcyclist’s Day studied the intentions of Russians to purchase motor vehicles. According to the polling of about 2,000 respondents in large cities of Russia,12% of Russians surveyed have already planned to buy a motorcycle. 27% of Russians surveyed would like to buy a motorcycle, because they like the biker community and want to become a part of it. Another 21% of respondents consider riding a motorcycle as a sport that they would like to practice.

Every fifth (20%) is ready to switch to motor vehicles, because they do not like to get stuck in traffic jams, and 19% of respondents are attracted to bikes as a symbol of youth and freedom. 16% of respondents mentioned that motorcycle trips are an excellent form of recreation in summer and at the weekends, and 15% like extreme sports. At the same time, 88% of Russians do not yet consider the possibility of purchasing motorcycles: 40% of respondents believe that this is a superfluity, and 33% do not have a budget. Another 15% believe that riding a bike is scary and risky, 11% do not have an appropriate category in a driver's license, 9% of respondents are worried that there is nowhere to park a motorcycle, and 8% of Russians are not allowed to buy a motorcycle by relatives (parents and spouses).

It is also interesting that to the question: “If your family member said he was going to shift to a motorcycle?”, 61% of Russians answered that they would not interfere, and 18% would proudly support such a decision, and only one in five (21 %) replied that they would do everything possible to prevent this from happening, as riding motorcycles is too dangerous. In April 2021 alone, according to AUTOSTAT analytic agency, Russians purchased 3.9 thousand new and 16.1 thousand used motorcycles, which is 145% and 81% more than a year ago, respectively.
