Russian parc of cars: main indicators

The Russian car market grew by 29% in June

Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia in June were 157,808 units. As noted in the AEB, this is 28.7% higher than in the same month of 2020. At the end of the first half of the year, the volume of the Russian car market reached 870,749 cars, by showing an increase of 36.9%. Leadership in the Russian car market is held by the domestic brand LADA, the sales of which in June grew by 43% to 40,096 cars. Hyundai moved up to the second place in terms of sales - sales of 19,204 cars (+ 44%) ensured the Korean brand the leadership among foreign cars.

KIA dropped to the third place with 18,801 sold cars, which is 11% higher than a year ago. This is followed by Renault - the products of this brand were chosen by 13,265 buyers (+ 24%) in the first month of summer. Volkswagen finished the top five with sales of 10,220 cars (+ 35%). The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in June also included: Skoda (10,063 units; + 38%), Toyota (7,541 units; + 2%), GAZ (4,637 units; + 23%), Nissan (4,100 units. .; -4%) and Haval (3,509 units; + 143%). According to Thomas Stärzel, Chairman of the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, the market dynamics exceeds expectations.

“The postponement of the increase in the scrappage fee has supported the market and helped to slow the rise in car prices. The COVID-19 situation is getting worse, but we hope that a complete lockdown can be avoided. Despite the difficulties with the supply of semiconductors and the increase in metal prices, it seems to us that it will be possible to prevent a sharp drop in sales in 2021 and in the coming months we will see a correction, ”said Mr. Stärzel.

The AEB also looks positively at the development of the market this year and updates its annual sales forecast: 1,756,000 passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold in 2021, which will be 9.8% higher than in the previous year. Let's remind, the previous forecast assumed the growth of the car market by 2.1%.
