There is an acute shortage in the Russian commercial vehicle market

The Russian commercial vehicle market faced a serious deficit amid problems in the auto industry with the supply of components, including chips, as well as deferred demand and growth in the online retail segment. Already now, the next delivery time for the cars is in a few months, and some companies are even taking orders for 2022, in accordance with a survey of manufacturers and importers conducted by the Kommersant newspaper.

According to Vladimir Bespalov from VTB Capital, the holidays that the manufacturers of trucks and LCVs take for the May holidays, in such a situation, formally look “not very logical”. However, downtime may be intended to alleviate the imbalance of component shortages.

According to Rosstat, the production of trucks in the first quarter of 2021 was 15.7 units, which is higher by 27.1% than a year ago. In addition, 24.1 thousand light commercial vehicles (+ 37.7%) rolled off Russian conveyors.

The market volume of new trucks in Russia in January-March of 2021 grew by 11.6% to 19,365 units, according to the data of AUTOSTAT agency. Purchases of new light commercial vehicles (LCV) in Russia were 27,043 vehicles, which is 14% higher than in the first quarter of 2020.
