Turkish Ford suspends the deliveries of vehicle kits for Sollers Ford

The first Russian car plant to be seriously affected by the lack of semiconductors in the car industry may be the Sollers Ford plant in Tatarstan. The Turkish plant Ford Otosan, which supplies vehicle kits for the production of Ford Transit in Yelabuga, will stop for at least 1.5 months from April 19th.

Sollers Ford assures that it will not affect their work in any way. At the moment, the Yelabuga plant is operating as usual, and there are no plans to stop production of FordTransit vehicles. However, experts believe that there will still be problems - even if the assembly line in Yelabuga does not stand up, then with a high degree of probability some cars will have to be released incomplete to the warehouse, and it will hit sales.

As previously reported by AUTOSTAT, by the results of three months of 2021, Russian dealers of Ford in March sold 3,388 light commercial vehicles FordTransit, which is higher by 62% than a year before. Thus, for the first quarter of 2021, Ford Transit set a sales record in compare with the same periods in previous years. According to Adil Shirinov, President and CEO of Sollers Ford, the company plans to double the sales of Ford Transit in Russia, while the share of sales of special versions is more than 50% of the total volume.

To date, the full range of special versions of vehicles based on Ford Transit includes 145 different modifications for special and social purposes and continues to grow.
