Russia may change the rules for right-hand drive cars

Right drive.jpg

In Russia, the rules for right-hand drive cars may be changed. We are talking about the location of the headlights, as their design is designed for a different traffic order. When driving on the right side, the light falls on the oncoming lane instead of the curb. Thus, when driving, a driver in a right-hand drive car blinds other road users with his headlights, the newspaper Izvestia writes.

The new maintenance norm may come into force on October 1st. So, in order to obtain a diagnostic card, owners of right-hand drive vehicles may have to either change the design of the lighting devices or buy new headlights.

According to the analytical agency AUTOSTAT, as of January 1st, 2021, right-hand drive vehicles have 8% of the Russian vehicle fleet. However, as experts noted, in different regions of the country the share of the right-hand drive is noticeably different. So, in the Primorsky Territory, 83% of all passenger cars are right-hand drive. In almost all regions of the Far East, this figure exceeds 50%. Meanwhile, in Moscow, only 0.22% of the fleet is driven by the right hand drive. In St. Petersburg, the share is 0.31%.
