Skoda summed up the results of 2020 and spoke about the development strategy for the next 10 years

On March 24th, 2021, Skoda held a traditional annual press conference, where it presented the main figures for 2020 and outlined a development strategy until 2030. According to the press service of the company, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Skoda Auto delivered more than 1 million vehicles to customers worldwide the previous year, its operating profit reached 756 million Euros (-54.5% in compare with 2019), and its profitability of sales was 4.4%.

Talking about sales in Europe and Asia, Martin Jahn, member of Skoda Auto Board of Directors responsible for sales and marketing, stressed that despite the decline in sales, the Czech company increased its market share in Europe by 0.5 pp. up to 5.4%. Also, Mr. Yang noted that the decline in sales in Eastern, Central and Western Europe ranged from -15.7% to -20.8%. The market “sank” even more significantly in India (-27.9%) and China (-38.7%).

Russia was the only country where sales of Skoda cars in 2020 grew by 6.8%. This year Skoda is launching the EnyaqiV model and its coupe version, the new generation Fabia and two updated bestsellers of the SUV segment - Kodiaq and Karoq on the global market. In addition, sales of the Octavia PRO liftback, which has been specially developed for the local market, are starting in China. And the compact crossover Kushaq is entering the Indian market. Strategically, Skoda intends to invest about 2.5 billion Euros in advanced technologies, among which 350 million Euros will be spent by the company for the modernization of plants and production facilities.

In his speech, Thomas Schaefer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Skoda Auto, emphasized that Volkswagen Group is taking on additional development commitments in such regions as Russia and North Africa, which are “regions with great potential”.
