KAMAZ spoke about the prospects of the truck market in Russia


KAMAZ predicts that the volume of the Russian truck market in 2021 will remain at the level of the previous year or will show a slight increase. If 59 thousand trucks were registered in Russia in 2020, then this year 60.5 thousand units are expected*. Ashot Harutyunyan, Marketing and Advertising Director of KAMAZ PTC, said it in an interview with AUTOSTAT agency. At the same time, in his opinion, in 2021, long-distance transportation will grow and the share of long-distance tractors will increase. In 3-4 years the market structure will reach the pre-crisis level.

“If we talk about medium-term trends, we forecast moderate growth in the coming years. The market is expected to grow gradually to the level of 65 - 75 thousand in a five-year perspective. According to the forecast, the market will reach 75 thousand units by 2025,”Ashot Harutyunyan said.

According to him, today KAMAZ is the leader in the segment of long-haul tractors with a share of 30% thanks to the active market launch of the 5490 model - the so-called K4 family, as well as the launch of sales of the K5 family vehicles in 2019 (model 54901). “As for the K5 family, there were mainly sales to large corporate clients, and we gave them vehicles for test operation to see how the vehicle behaves in order to get rid of “childhood illnesses”. Nevertheless, the market sales of K5 started already the previous year - in 2020 we sold about 500 cars, and we plan for 2021 - more than 2 thousand cars,”Ashot Harutyunyan noted.

In the future, the share of sales of cars of the old model range (K3 family) will decrease. However, some segments will remain, especially in special equipment, where K3 family vehicles will continue to be in demand, including all-wheel drive for Siberia and the Far East. “In long-haul tractors and dump trucks, of course, there will be a transition to the new generation K4 and, most importantly, K5. It is our flagship. This is what the company has been investing in and adopting new technologies for. It is also important that the dealer network is now ready to work with this vehicle. Therefore, we are optimistic about the future,” Ashot Harutyunyan emphasized.
