Russian manufacturers of electronics for the automotive industry are faced with a shortage of microcircuits, which previously covered world markets. We are talking about microcircuits for ERA-GLONASS systems, tachographs, instrument control panels, engine control units, body electronics, multimedia systems, even for the buttons on the steering wheel you need a control microcircuit, says Alexey Belyaev, head of the AEB autocomponents committee.

As the general director of NPP ITELMA Evgeny Gorelik informed Kommersant newspaper, manufacturers experience “the highest deficit of components, they work according to their actual availability”. According to the newspaper, another major Russian electronics manufacturer also reported the shortage of chips to automakers. The Ministry of Industry and Trade says that Russian automakers have no interruptions in the supply of electronics. In turn, BMW admits that most manufacturers have faced a shortage of semiconductors since the end of 2020, but "were able to adapt to the changes as quickly as possible.

"AVTOVAZ reported that it had created a special working group to monitor this situation. Daimler also monitors constantly the situation "in close cooperation" with suppliers and adapts production programs if required. Stellantis is also "keeping the situation under control", noting that there are no risks associated with the production of Peugeot, Citroen, Opel. Sollers say that the group's enterprises were not affected by the problem, but due to the general situation in the world market, such risks remain. Sollers' main suppliers of electronics are Bosch (UAZ / FordTransit), as well as Continental, Valeo and Visteon (FordTransit).

A shortage of chips for the automotive industry has arisen all over the world, since in the spring of 2020, as the carmakers reduced orders against the backdrop of the coronavirus. Now the industry was not ready for a sharp recovery in volumes.
