The Russian car market showed a slight increase in February


Sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles grew by 0.8% to 120,081 vehicles in Russia in February. According to the results of the first two months of 2021, the Russian car market was 215,294 cars (-1.4%), according to the data of the Association of European Businesses. After a decline in the first month of this year, February new car sales are showing a slight increase again, according to the AEB.

It appears to be a sign of ongoing stabilization with another month of recovery. In general, the market remains at the level of the previous year, the association noted. According to the AEB forecast, by the end of 2021, 1 million 632 thousand passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold in Russia, which means a 2.1% market growth in compare with the previous year. Leadership in the Russian car market is held by LADA brand, the sales of which in February grew by 13% and reached 28,272 vehicles.

The second place in terms of sales volume is kept by KIA - sales of 16,516 cars (-4%) provided the Korean brand with the leadership in the foreign car market. The third line is occupied by Hyundai with 13,841 sold cars, which is lower by 4% than a year ago. Then Renault follows - cars of this brand were chosen by 10,171 buyers, which correspond to the level of the previous year. This time Toyota finished the top five with sales of 7640 cars (-7%).

The TOP-10 of best-selling brands in February also included Skoda (7,029 units, + 35%), Volkswagen (6,882 units, -8%), Nissan (4750 units, -17%), GAZ (3,250 units, -15%) and Mazda (3210 units, + 47%).
